Behavior :
realism & gameplay.
With a total sail area of 700m2 (1000m2 downwind), Orange II has gigantic dimensions :
- 36,80 m length, 18m width,
- 48 m height and 5.5m draught (2.5m boards up),
- 45 m mast and 17m boom.
And a potential speed of 45 knots ...
For Maitai, reproducing Orange II behavior was not an easy task.
A meticulous study of the documentation about her known performance in all wind conditions was the base of the work. Then it was translated into polars and adapted to VirtualSkipper format.
A difficult compromise had to be found to balance game play and realism, and countless tests were performed by Virtual-Winds and Blue Beach Team members.

One of Orange II's behavior particularities in Vsk is that manual trimming will always give better results than automatic mode. This, plus the fact that the sail choice is quite tricky, favour the best sailor, even in reaching legs.
Bruno Peyron and his brother Loick have been invited to try Orange II for Vsk.
We are waiting for their comments, and we dare to believe that the boat reflects to the maximum extent the exceptional characteristics of Orange II, while still being fun to play in Vsk5.
